October 3, 1855 Major Granville Haller marches for Yakama country. October 6, 1855 Major Granville Haller, with just over 100 men, fights at Toppenish Creek, and is defeated by a force of superior numbers. October 22, 1855
October 24, 1855 Eaton's Rangers, commanded by Capt. Charles Eaton, are dispatched to "escort" Leschi back to Olympia. When they arrive at his farm, they find a plow standing abandoned in mid-furrow. Leschi has gone into hiding. October 27, 1855 Eaton's Rangers battle a group of hostile Indians near Connell's Prairie, losing two militia men, Michael Conner and James McAlister.

Eight or nine settlers are killed in the White River Massacre. John King, a boy just shy of seven years old, and his siblings survive the attack, although his mother and stepfather are killed. Sometime in the second decade of the 20th century, King apparently gave an account of his experience to Ezra Meeker. October 31, 1855 Major Gabriel Rains marches for Yakama country. At upper White and Green rivers, Abram Benton Moses and Joseph Miles of Captain Maurice Maloney's command are fatally shot. |
